Coming off an Olympic sized catastrophe in Milan, Hockey Canada deemed that anything less than Gold in Edmonton would be a failure. And boy did they succeed, with an 8-1 win in the Gold Medal game, taking back a shred of dignity from Milan.
Game Recap
This game was about as close to a full 60-minute effort as a team will get from the Canadians. Brock England opened the scoring less than 2 minutes in, and Maddox Schultz buried one on the powerplay less than 10 minutes later. Brock England again on the powerplay put the game all but out of reach before the end of the first. University of Minnesota commit Gunnar Conboy makes it 3-1 for the Americans but there’s no stopping the onslaught. Ben Veitch, Maddox Schultz, and Liam Pue make it 6-1 in the 2nd. Liam Pue and Jaakko Wycisk round out the 8-1 and Canada waltzes to another Hlinka Cup Championship.
